Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control
Each business group within the company has established an Industrial Safety and Health Center responsible for promoting environmental management and industrial safety-related affairs. Subsidiaries handle related matters through their general affairs departments. The company enhances supervision of pollution prevention operations and emphasizes the maintenance of environmental protection equipment to improve treatment efficiency and comply with environmental regulations. Additionally, the company promotes and has obtained certification for its environmental management system (ISO 14001).
Water Resource Usage
The company primarily uses water for production processes, daily living, and plant irrigation. Water sources include Taiwan Water Corporation supply and groundwater. The Hsinchu plants sources water from the Touqian River, while the Taipei headquarters uses water from the Feitsui Reservoir. According to the World Resources Institute’s “Water Risk Atlas,” the company’s operational areas are classified as "Low - Medium Risk (1–2)" for water stress, and water withdrawal has not caused significant impacts on local water sources. The company’s water usage over the past three years is summarized in the table below.
Water Pollution Prevention
Wastewater containing heavy metals and other effluents generated from the company’s manufacturing processes undergoes preliminary treatment before being collected and sent to the industrial park’s wastewater treatment facility. After treatment, the discharge water is ultimately released into the Jiadong River. To achieve the goal of wastewater resource recovery and improve water use efficiency while reducing discharge volume, the company actively enhances processes to increase the wastewater recycling rate. Additional improvements include preventing overflow in air-conditioning systems, installing water-saving devices in sanitary facilities, managing the frequency of exterior wall cleaning, and conserving water used for landscaping irrigation. High-efficiency equipment is used for water reclamation and pollutant treatment, ensuring that discharged water meets or exceeds government standards. The Heavy Electric Factory and Automobile Equipment Factory commission the industrial park’s management center to send personnel monthly for on-site water sampling and testing. The Xin Feng Factory contracts an environmental testing agency certified by the Ministry of Environment to conduct monthly water quality inspections.
